SUMMARY:The Blackheart Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The Blackheart Orchestra—multi-award-winning British duo Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington—are recent winners of the UK Rising Stars of Prog Award and were chosen by Mike Batt as his “favourite new album” on Times Radio’s Old and New show. They perform as a “two-person orchestra\,” playing up to 13 instruments in their uniquely immersive live show. SUMMARY:The Great Faversham Explosion 1916
DESCRIPTION:The Great Faversham Explosion\, 1916 \nAt 1.20pm on April 2\, 1916\, in the midst of the terrible carnage of the First World War\, a massive explosion ripped through the Explosives Works on the Uplees Marshes at Faversham. \nThis devastating event was not caused by enemy action or sabotage. Instead\, an immense store of 200 tons of TNT was accidentally detonated when empty sacks caught fire. A series of smaller explosions followed\, adding to an already immense death toll of over 100 men and boys. \nDr Martin Watts BA (Hons) PhD (Open) FRHistS SFHEA will guide the audience through the causes and consequences of this tragedy — the most terrible disaster in the history of the explosives industry.

SUMMARY:Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun | The Abbey School
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nOn New Year’s Eve\, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall\, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully\, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. This event has now been relocated to the Abbey School\, London Rd\, Faversham ME13 8RZ \nWe will be\, or may already have been\, in touch with all current ticket holders directly. If you have any questions\, please get in contact via email at bookings@thealex.org.uk or by phone on 01795 591691. \nFor a map to the Abbey School\, please click HERE \nTo read more about the fire and its effects please click HERE \n\nSimon Evans is Staring at the Sun\nSimon Evans is Back! Waaaay back… \nWith growing evidence that we are living in a Computer Simulation–and a pretty glitchy\, off-brand simulation at that–and the approaching watershed of the AI Singularity looming like a weirdly pixelated cumulo-nimbus on the horizon\, BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans is squinting at an uncertain future\, and revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth. \nThe analogue world of hitch-hiking\, pub bets and hedge porn. Of being able to get properly lost. And also pondering the great thinkers and mystics of the past who had\, it seems\, the same doubts and misgivings about “reality”\, back when an adjustable sandal passed for cutting-edge tech. \nNB Any similarity of Doll in package to Patrick Stewart is coincidental. No refunds. \n‘A masterclass’ ***** (The Scotsman). ‘Outstanding’ ****½ (Chortle.co.uk). ‘Dynamite’**** (The Times).

SUMMARY:Celebrating 100 years of Laurel & Hardy Presented by Neil Brand
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre \nOn New Year’s Eve\, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall\, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully\, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. Unfortunately\, this event has been cancelled. \nWe will be\, or may already have been\, in touch with all current ticket holders directly. If you have any questions\, please get in contact via email at bookings@thealex.org.uk or by phone on 01795 591691. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects please click HERE \n\nFollowing the success of his 2023/24 tour\, Neil Brand invites you to celebrate the centenary of Laurel and Hardy with a brand-new show. In 1926\, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy signed separate contracts with Hollywood film mogul Hal Roach\, and appeared for the first time in a film together\, “45 Minutes from Hollywood”. The following year they would become an official comedy partnership that would set the whole world rocking with laughter. Nobody could have anticipated at the time how this unlikely Anglo/American comedy duo would become global icons in over 130 countries around the world \nWe are pleased to announce and celebrate those 100 years with the brand new production of Neil Brand’s “Evening with Laurel & Hardy” 2026 Centenary Tour. Neil has established himself as the foremost exponent of silent film and improvised piano accompaniment. \nThanks to new restorations of their silent films\, and the rediscovery of some of their lesser-known comedies\, Neil will uncover gems of hilarity from the team whose comedy never ages\, and bring them to jaw-dropping life with the demanding live piano improvisations for which he is so famous. Featuring extended scenes from the best of their silent comedies\, particularly You’re Darn Tootin\, The Finishing Touch and The Second Hundred Years. \nNeil’s concerts have proved really popular with his personal contact with the audience & his unique insight into Laurel & Hardy and the birth of the cinema industry. His engaging easy-going style\, along with his Q&A at the end of the show answering all the questions from the audience\, followed by his after-show ‘Meet and Greet’\, makes for a highly entertaining evening. \nCurrently working on a television documentary and a new book about ‘The Boys’\, Neil is once again looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with audiences around the country\, and celebrating the life and times of comedy legends\, Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy.

SUMMARY:Mitch Benn: The Lehrer Effect | The Alex
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nThis event is still going ahead. Following a fire in our main hall on New Year’s Eve\, this space is currently unavailable and the event has therefore been relocated to our Bar area. \nWe apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects\, please click HERE \n\nMitch Benn: The Lehrer Effect \nWhen\, years ago\, a teenage Mitch discovered American comic songwriting legend Tom Lehrer\, the course of his life was changed forever. Mitch looks at the legacy of the elusive Lehrer\, the creative debt he\, and all those who mix humour and melody\, owe to him and performs some of the more Lehreresque of his own songs. Since Mr. Lehrer placed his entire catalogue in public domain\, expect a few Mitch Benn-ified covers of some of Tom’s most famous creations as well.\n\nTom Lehrer died at the age of 97\, immediately before the premiere of the show in Edinburgh\, which means that the show became a heart-felt eulogy rather than a living tribute to the artist.
