SUMMARY:Daniel Kitson – Work In Progress | Faversham Assembly Rooms
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Kitson is working on a new show. \nHe’s hoping\, once again\, to make something better than before: Hopefully funny\, maybe a bit sad\, intermittently thought provoking\, slightly audacious and\, ideally\, completely unfathomable. \nHe started properly thinking about it in the middle of January and it needs to be finished by August. So. That should give you a sense of how far through the process\, these particular shows are likely to be in terms of the lump of stone to finished sculpture ratio. \nOn the upside\, they’ve been priced accordingly and will last no more than 90 minutes. \nPlease note: All copy provided by Daniel Kitson.

SUMMARY:Ian Stone is “Looking for the Wow” | St Mary’s Church
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nOn New Year’s Eve\, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall\, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully\, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. This event has now been relocated to St Mary’s Church\, Church Rd\, Faversham ME13 8GZ . \nWe will be\, or may already have been\, in touch with all current ticket holders directly. If you have any questions\, please get in contact via email at bookings@thealex.org.uk or by phone on 01795 591691. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects please click HERE \n\nIan Stone is “Looking for the Wow”  \nLife can’t just be the humdrum\, the mundane and the routine before the inevitable slide to disease\, decay and death. Why can’t we sneak in a bit of awesome\, a tad of amazing and maybe a smidge of wonderful? A forest canopy opening onto a huge vista would be enchanting for some but my ancestors wandered in the desert for forty years\, I think we’ve been outdoors enough. Others get their fix from the spiritual but I’ve been harbouring a grudge against God since my mother stopped me going to Arsenal after my Barmitzvah. Forty nine years ago. ’God will be watching’ she said. Well\, at least he got to see the game. The point is\, life could be so much better so I’m on the lookout. Come and join me on the hunt. \nIan Stone is a hugely experienced broadcaster\, podcaster and writer and a brilliantly funny comedian. He performs at major comedy festivals and venues globally. His popular posts and reels on social media have quickly earned him a following of over 60k across BlueSky\, Instagram\, TikTok\, and Facebook\, amassing millions of views. \nIn the last three years\, Ian has performed his one-man shows at the Edinburgh Festival to packed rooms and great reviews. In 2023\, he won the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe Award. He took his last show on tour across the UK\, finishing with a sold-out performance at London’s Comedy Store. Ian recently returned from making his debut at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He will be returning to Edinburgh with Looking for the Wow before kicking off his UK tour. \nAside from stand-up comedy\, Ian co-hosted the award-winning Rock ‘N’ Roll Football show on Absolute Radio for five years with Ian Wright. He currently presents a very popular (50k downloads per episode)\, twice-weekly Arsenal podcast\, Handbrake Off\, for The Athletic. A live version of the podcast recently sold out Leicester Square Theatre in London. Ian is also a regular contributor on Times Radio. His book To Be Someone was published in 2020 and has received nearly 500 four- and five-star reviews on Amazon.

SUMMARY:Susan Harrison: Should I Still Be Doing This?
DESCRIPTION:Following a smash hit Edinburgh Fringe run\, award-winning character comedian Susan Harrison brings her latest collection of joyfully bizarre alter-egos to her home town of Faversham. Come to this special preview date before she heads to Soho Theatre! Is it ok to still be dressing up as weird characters as you get older? Susan might not be sure\, but a life size Sindy doll\, a panda from Chester Zoo in the 90’s and a woman who’s swallowed a small girl in a well will have plenty to say about it. Some others might turn up too. \n“A gloriously absurd\, laugh-out-loud show… as inventive as it is deliriously funny **** The List.\n‘Original\, joyful… unadulterated fun’ **** Broadway Baby\n‘Unique and hilarious’ **** Midlothian View\n‘A brilliant showcase of modern character comedy… I could’ve watched her for hours’ **** Lisa In The Theatre\n“First class coming acting” (The Guardian)\n\nAs seen/heard in: Showstopper! The Improvised Musical\, BBC Radio 4\, The Comedy Store Players\, Mischief Movie Night\, Paul Merton and Suki Webster’s Improv show.

SUMMARY:Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm – The Faversham Assembly Rooms
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nThis event was originally scheduled to take place at the Alexander Centre\, Faversham. Following a fire on New Year’s Eve\, this venue is currently out of action and the event has therefore been relocated to The Faversham Assembly Rooms\, Preston Street\, Faversham\, Kent\, ME13 8PG. \nFor venue-related enquiries (including access\, accessibility\, and parking)\, please contact The Faversham Assembly Rooms on 01795 503286. \nFor a location map for The Faversham Assembly Rooms\, please click HERE \nWe apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects\, please click HERE \n\nDaliso Chaponda has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade – on Have I Got News for You\, Radio 4’s News Quiz\, Australia’s Good News Week and many more besides. (In fact he’s seen the news from both sides\, having been in the tabloids himself.) But recently the news has been so absurd\, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here? \nTopical Storm is Daliso’s response. A show not about THE news but about news itself. Journalists\, bloggers\, fake news\, satirical news: have we lost the thread of it all? Is the reporting of news endlessly polarising us as a society rather than educating us? Would we be better off going right back to the first ever news bulletin – the original caveman drawing on a wall – and starting from scratch? Daliso does just that in this explosive new standup show. \n★★★★ ‘Full of sharp one-liners and well crafted gags…a real talent’ Metro\n‘Gets laughs out of topics other comedians shun’ The Guardian\n‘Brilliantly bold\, thoroughly engaging and provocative’ Wee Review

SUMMARY:Mitch Benn: The Lehrer Effect | The Alex
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nThis event is still going ahead. Following a fire in our main hall on New Year’s Eve\, this space is currently unavailable and the event has therefore been relocated to our Bar area. \nWe apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects\, please click HERE \n\nMitch Benn: The Lehrer Effect \nWhen\, years ago\, a teenage Mitch discovered American comic songwriting legend Tom Lehrer\, the course of his life was changed forever. Mitch looks at the legacy of the elusive Lehrer\, the creative debt he\, and all those who mix humour and melody\, owe to him and performs some of the more Lehreresque of his own songs. Since Mr. Lehrer placed his entire catalogue in public domain\, expect a few Mitch Benn-ified covers of some of Tom’s most famous creations as well.\n\nTom Lehrer died at the age of 97\, immediately before the premiere of the show in Edinburgh\, which means that the show became a heart-felt eulogy rather than a living tribute to the artist.

SUMMARY:Celebrating 100 years of Laurel & Hardy Presented by Neil Brand
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre \nOn New Year’s Eve\, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall\, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully\, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. Unfortunately\, this event has been cancelled. \nWe will be\, or may already have been\, in touch with all current ticket holders directly. If you have any questions\, please get in contact via email at bookings@thealex.org.uk or by phone on 01795 591691. \nTo read more about the fire and its effects please click HERE \n\nFollowing the success of his 2023/24 tour\, Neil Brand invites you to celebrate the centenary of Laurel and Hardy with a brand-new show. In 1926\, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy signed separate contracts with Hollywood film mogul Hal Roach\, and appeared for the first time in a film together\, “45 Minutes from Hollywood”. The following year they would become an official comedy partnership that would set the whole world rocking with laughter. Nobody could have anticipated at the time how this unlikely Anglo/American comedy duo would become global icons in over 130 countries around the world \nWe are pleased to announce and celebrate those 100 years with the brand new production of Neil Brand’s “Evening with Laurel & Hardy” 2026 Centenary Tour. Neil has established himself as the foremost exponent of silent film and improvised piano accompaniment. \nThanks to new restorations of their silent films\, and the rediscovery of some of their lesser-known comedies\, Neil will uncover gems of hilarity from the team whose comedy never ages\, and bring them to jaw-dropping life with the demanding live piano improvisations for which he is so famous. Featuring extended scenes from the best of their silent comedies\, particularly You’re Darn Tootin\, The Finishing Touch and The Second Hundred Years. \nNeil’s concerts have proved really popular with his personal contact with the audience & his unique insight into Laurel & Hardy and the birth of the cinema industry. His engaging easy-going style\, along with his Q&A at the end of the show answering all the questions from the audience\, followed by his after-show ‘Meet and Greet’\, makes for a highly entertaining evening. \nCurrently working on a television documentary and a new book about ‘The Boys’\, Neil is once again looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with audiences around the country\, and celebrating the life and times of comedy legends\, Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy.

SUMMARY:Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun | The Abbey School
DESCRIPTION:Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre\nOn New Year’s Eve\, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall\, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully\, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. This event has now been relocated to the Abbey School\, London Rd\, Faversham ME13 8RZ \nWe will be\, or may already have been\, in touch with all current ticket holders directly. If you have any questions\, please get in contact via email at bookings@thealex.org.uk or by phone on 01795 591691. \nFor a map to the Abbey School\, please click HERE \nTo read more about the fire and its effects please click HERE \n\nSimon Evans is Staring at the Sun\nSimon Evans is Back! Waaaay back… \nWith growing evidence that we are living in a Computer Simulation–and a pretty glitchy\, off-brand simulation at that–and the approaching watershed of the AI Singularity looming like a weirdly pixelated cumulo-nimbus on the horizon\, BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans is squinting at an uncertain future\, and revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth. \nThe analogue world of hitch-hiking\, pub bets and hedge porn. Of being able to get properly lost. And also pondering the great thinkers and mystics of the past who had\, it seems\, the same doubts and misgivings about “reality”\, back when an adjustable sandal passed for cutting-edge tech. \nNB Any similarity of Doll in package to Patrick Stewart is coincidental. No refunds. \n‘A masterclass’ ***** (The Scotsman). ‘Outstanding’ ****½ (Chortle.co.uk). ‘Dynamite’**** (The Times).
