We will bind blank A6 sized notebooks with 90 gsm sketch paper pages using the Long-stitch technique. We’ll add end papers, reinforce our spine, pierce sections, and sew them to an inner cover. Long-stitch is a historic technique that was used in Europe as early as the 14th Century. The book will be finished with an outer cover that cleverly locks itself onto the structure through folds alone, and can be changed whenever you’d like.

The Wraparound Long-stitch book opens completely flat, making it ideal for journaling and sketching.

The Wraparound Long-stitch structure was devised by Kathy Abbott as a re-bind of a 1785 copy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and was exhibited at the Antiquarian Book Fair in 2004. It’s ideal for rebinding old books as no adhesive is used on the book block and the structure is fully reversible. Abbott’s excellent book titled Bookbinding, A step-by-step guide is my reference for the historic information shared here and my guide for the structure of our workshop.
