D-Day – from 1942 to 1945, the key pieces of the jigsaw
The 6th June 1944 is remembered as D Day, but it was the result of months of planning and taking huge risks. Its outcome eleven months later in May 1945 was the defeat of Germany.
This talk, by Mike Cosgrove, will concentrate on how these plans came into being – what was required, how quickly was the invasion consolidated after the first landing, why did the Germans fail to stop The Allied’s advance, and why did it take so long to gain victory?
Mike Cosgrove has a long interest in military history. His most recent publication is ‘Snakes and Ladders – British Second World War Generals, a retrospective.
This talk will take place in the Mayors Parlour.
