Important Notice: Fire at the Alexander Centre
On New Year’s Eve, a fire occurred at the rear of our Gatefield Hall, The Alex’s main events space. Thankfully, no one was in the venue and there were no injuries. Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled.

Alice – The Sounds of Smokie
A superb five-piece live tribute showcasing the music of English rock band Smokie.Enjoy all the iconic hits including Living Next Door To Alice, Needles and Pins, Lay Back in the Arms of Someone, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, If You Think You Know How To Love Me and more, plus 70s classics that will have you singing along – audience participation is essential!
Meet the Band:
- Paul Bonner – Drums and “Smokie” vocals. Began performing at 15, sang backing for 60s stars, and toured with The New Honeycombs.
- Eddie Wheeler – Guitar/Vocals. Professional musician from 17, worked across Europe, long-standing member of Vanity Fare, also performs solo.
- Holger Skepeneit – Keyboards/Vocals. German-born, classically trained pianist turned jazz/blues musician with a First Class Honours from Leeds College of Music; composer for award-winning films.
- Cliff Jones – Guitar/Vocals. Performed with international bands across Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East; appeared on TV and radio; also a solo artist.
- Jeff Malin – Bass/Vocals. Played with Beat Syndicate supporting The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds, later toured for 14 years with The New Honeycombs.
A night dedicated to the unforgettable sound of Smokie – five talented musicians bringing the songs you love back to life on stage.
